Mom Puts Gate Around Christmas Tree to Stop Dogs from Destroying It

  • Brenda’s four loving dogs tend to have separation anxiety when left alone.
  • This manifests in destructive behavior, which has been directed at their Christmas tree for a few years now.
  • So, Brenda decided to put a steel gate around the tree to keep it safe from the rowdy dogs.

Brenda Hofstad Hughes is a mom to four loving dogs: Chancey Boy, Chloe, Scoop, and Zoey. All four are rescues who came from shelters.

The four pups love their new family so much that they struggle with separation anxiety whenever they’re left at home.

Brenda told The Dodo, “Whenever I leave the house, they tear up whatever they can get a hold of, and when I’m home … I’M their comfort zone. They all LOVE people (except the mailman) and they ALL sleep in our bed.”

Most of their house has since been dog-proofed to prevent the pups from destroying everything. But the holiday season brings with it a new target: the Christmas tree.

Brenda shared, “The Christmas tree gets destroyed every year.”

Their parents have tried their best to keep the tree safe, but to no avail. It felt like it has become part of the tradition.

The pups may love destroying the tree, but Brenda finally decided that she can’t deal with another mess this Christmas.

So, she bought a stronger ‘force field’ to keep the dogs away.

She got a $200 steel gate and installed it around the tree!

It has done its job well, so far. The pups have not been able to get near the tree — or at least not near enough to tear it apart.

Now, their parents can only hope that the pups don’t turn their attention to tearing the gate apart.

These rowdy pups may be too hyper for their own good, but that doesn’t stop their parents from loving them.
