  • Their journey aims to support a charitable foundation
  • Extraordinary moment captured on video

During a daring Atlantic crossing, a four-man team was astonished when a pod of whales surfaced and dove beside their boat mid-journey. The rowers are participating in the World’s Toughest Row, an unassisted race from the Canary Islands to Antigua, to raise money for a meaningful cause.

The adventure took a thrilling turn when the whales appeared, giving the rowers an up-close look at the majestic creatures. The team consists of Will Towning, Greg Collins, Chris Betts from England, and Elliot Collins from Connecticut.

“It was the most surreal moment of my life,” Elliot exclaimed.

Another member recalled, “All I just heard was ‘whale, whale, whale, whale’, and then I got out of the cabin just in time to see it.”

Their efforts have raised nearly £12,000 ($15,000) for the Matt Hampson Foundation, which inspires and assists young people who have been seriously injured in sports. The Get Busy Living center in Leicestershire, founded by Matt Hampson after his own life-changing injury, continues to make a positive impact.

Acts of courage and wonder like this remind us of the beauty of teamwork and the surprises that await on each journey.
