At the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards, one familiar face brought the audience to its feet with a milestone win.

Seventy-nine-year-old Sally Field accepted the trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, becoming the oldest performer ever to earn that honor.

Her role in the heartfelt adaptation “Remarkably Bright Creatures” moved both viewers and voters, proving that great stories—and the people who tell them—never lose their shine.

“I wouldn’t be up here [without the] magical talent of Lewis Pullman, who stood next to me the whole time,” she said. “I would not be up here.”

Field then reflected on a lifetime spent in the spotlight.

“I have been so grateful and so proud to be a part of this community, the arts, for 62 years or something,” she said. “We’re the arts, we matter. Our voices matter. Our diversity, our unique storytelling matters.”

After the ceremony, Field joined Reba McEntire to celebrate the life of the late Dolly Parton.

“It was my great good fortune to have worked with Dolly in a film called Steel Magnolias, and over the years, I never stopped loving her,” she told reporters. “Though we lived very far apart, I adored her from day one. How could you not?”

“She was genuine and humble, supportive, and blisteringly funny, with a bawdy sense of humor that would send any rude guy looking for a place to hide. I couldn’t see then what a real giant Dolly was—not just as an artist, but as a human.”

Her words reminded everyone that behind every award there is a family of friends, colleagues, and memories that keep the spotlight warm.
