Merve Özcan had been feeling anxious at the hospital when an unusual sight immediately relieved the tension.
A stray cat confidently walked into the emergency room’s waiting area while carrying her baby in her mouth.
Merve told The Dodo, “I was very surprised when I saw her because she seemed to know [the hospital] better than me. It was obvious that she knew where to go.”
Merve’s father, a recovering COVID-19 patient, was there at the Kanuni Sultan Süleyman Hospital in Istanbul for a follow-up test.
She had been feeling tense but seeing the mom cat walking down the hospital hall with her baby soon relieved her worries.
The sight also lightened the mood of the hospital staff, who took a quick break to play with her and her baby.
“The medical staff was also very happy to see the cat and kitten, went to them and loved and cared for them. I think it was a cat that employees already know, and there were people who saw it there before,” Merve shared.
Both the cats were in good condition, thankfully. It turns out that the mom cat simply knew where to go to get some milk and tender loving care.
“Her kitten was not sick, but she wanted to stand there. While the doctors loved on her and her baby, she stood safely next to them,” Merve shared.
Merve shared the photos she took of the wholesome encounter on Twitter on Monday. As a cat owner herself, she expressed how thankful she was to see the furry family get attended to.
She shared that while cats are a common sight in their country, it was quite surprising to see the furry duo in the emergency room.
Since restaurants are currently closed under quarantine, the Turkish government has urged local authorities to help feed stray cats and dogs.
The hospital staff kindly gave the kitten a quick checkup and directed them to a veterinarian. The mom cat seemed hesitant to leave her caretakers, however, and stayed there until after Merve and her father left.
It feels calming and reassuring that no matter how busy doctors are right now, they’re happy to attend to anyone.
