Sweet Cat Makes Mom Smile With Morning Gifts

Cats are some of the sweetest souls around.  Cat parents can attest how they instinctively offer cuddles and even licks when needed.

And João is one prime example.

You see there was one time his mom Thamar de Araújo was going through a rough patch and he gave her extra snuggles to comfort her.  Although Araújo says João has always been a cuddly and intuitive cat since he was a kitten, this time, João, found a way to make his mom smile and lift her spirit.

Araújo said, “It’s such a simple thing, but so full of meaning. And it continues to this day. “It’s very beautiful, an incredible connection of love and affection.”

The sweet gesture started with a gift of a leaf from João that he got from the backyard one morning.  He placed it on Araújo’s feet. To show her appreciation for the gift, she placed the leaf on her head like a hat.

With João looking on eagerly, he knew his mom loved his gift.

Araújo said, “When he saw me with the leaf, I think he realized that he found a way to make me smile. That way was to bring me leaves.”

And that is how the everyday morning gifts started. 

Every leaf that João has gathered has been worn as a hat and there are photos to prove how Araújo appreciates the sweet gesture. She said, “Every time, I pin the leaves to my hair in front of João, and I thank him for the gift.”

The different types of leaves are carefully selected by João to make his mom’s hats fresh and chic. Araújo now has a collection of the beautiful and sweet reminders of her fur baby’s love. 

Every day, as she prepares for work, she secures the leaf on her head with a hairpin and tells João that she loves the gift. Araújo said, “He is happy when he sees new leaves in my hair. I’m absolutely sure that he knows that he makes me happy with that gesture.”
