Quick Smiles:

  • Virginia high school students restore cars and donate them to single mothers in need.
  • The automotive program teaches real-world skills and encourages giving back.
  • A partnership has provided over 60 cars and repaired more than 260 vehicles for the community.

At Louisa County High School, students in the automotive technology program are learning much more than mechanics — they’re actively bringing hope to families by repairing and donating vehicles.

This hands-on course lets 11th graders work on real cars, offering services to school staff, students, and local residents at affordable rates, all while turning the classroom into a vibrant workshop.

Restoring donated cars for single mothers, the students get to witness firsthand how their hard work creates lasting change when recipients receive their vehicles.

“Students working on that car, and he’s putting forth all that effort, but he doesn’t know the emotion that’s going to come when he sees that mom come in in tears,” said Giving Words founder Eddie Brown.

Partnering with the nonprofit Giving Words, the program has provided safe transportation to over 60 families and repaired hundreds of cars, proving that community service and education go hand in hand.

The initiative inspires both students and recipients alike, turning skill-building into acts of kindness that ripple throughout their community.
