Uber Driver Asks Wife to Cook for Passenger Who Misses Home-Cooked Meal

A woman in London shared her touching Uber ride experience on Twitter last week. User “Lina” said she had confessed to the Uber driver that she had not been in touch with her family in a while.

“Lina” now lives in London but she is originally from Sudan, where there’s political crisis and civil unrest due to a military coup. Sudan shutdown the internet after the coup late October.

“Was chatting to my Uber driver last night on my way home about Bengali food, Sylhet, Sudan, how I can’t get in touch with my family there after the coup, and how isolating it can be living in London,” Lina wrote on Twitter.

As soon as the driver found out how his passenger was feeling, he decided to make an unplanned stop at his home. It’s a spur-of-the-moment decision but he felt he needed to do something to make his passenger feel there were still people who cared.

“He drove by his house mid-journey and asked his wife to fix me a curry plate”

Lina said she politely declined his offer at first but the driver wasn’t having it.

“He insisted despite my pleas because he lived close to me. I didn’t have any food cooked in weeks and been surviving on work canteen food so today I had the best murgir lal jhol for lunch. It’s the generosity of communion that holds us together.”

What a kind-hearted guy. His wife is as generous.

“He even offered me rice as well but I was like no please I have rice this is too much,” Lina added.

The kind couple did that to a stranger who’s having a tough time without her family.
