  • Vilnius launches a solar-powered electric ferry connecting key city districts.
  • The Lašiša supports Vilnius’ title as European Green Capital 2025.
  • Innovative design offers eco travel with free Wi-Fi for all passengers.

Lithuania’s capital now offers a new way to explore its historic riverfront with the electric ferryboat Lašiša, which glides between business and residential areas while stopping at cultural landmarks.

This green transit option comes as Vilnius celebrates being named the European Green Capital for 2025, reaching a tight deadline to launch the zero-emissions vessel by July 25th.

“So we are very thankful for the boat company that built the boats. And it obviously was a big responsibility for the city and for the citizens to say that we would have made a boat in six or seven months,” said Loreta Levulytė-Staškevičienė, CEO of JUDU.

The compact boat carries up to 32 passengers, features 80% solar panel coverage, and provides complimentary Wi-Fi.

For just €3 online or €4 onboard, locals and visitors can enjoy an innovative ferry experience along the River Neris.

Polina Ruginiene, a Vilnius resident, shared, “If you live in the center, in this area, and you work here, I guess, yes (electric boats would be a good thing). Especially, maybe a woman would like it, like a romantic way to go to work, or to clear your mind after work. I think it will be very cool.”

The ferry travels at a maximum of 7.5 km per hour, with slower speeds in some zones to reduce wake, making it both safe and energy efficient.

Plans are underway to expand the fleet, with two more boats currently being built in neighboring Latvia, supporting Vilnius’ commitment to greener transit.
