The New York City marathon was canceled for the first time last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Last Sunday, the marathon pushed through. Though there was a decrease in attendance — only 30,000 runners participated this year —there was an adorable duck who joined the race.

The video of Wrinkle the duck running during the 50th NYC marathon went viral on TikTok and several other social media platforms.

In the video, Wrinkle can be seen waddling alongside the runners while her owners and bystanders were cheering her on from the sidelines.

The emotional support duck did not finish the entire 26.2 mile-marathon but she definitely gave her best shot on Sunday. 

The videos of her quick waddling in her custom-made red “sneakers” have made millions happy. And she looked like she was enjoying herself and the adulation of the marathon crowd. That’s confidence.

“You got this, little ducky!” one person cheers in the video. 

This year’s marathon saw Kenyan runner Peres Jepchirchir make history by becoming the only Olympic gold medal winner to also win the New York City Marathon.

However, for all animal lovers the world over, it was the sight of Wrinkle the Duck running in the race that captivated their attention.

TV personality Chelsea Handler saw the video and wrote: “If you can do this, anyone can,” while Peloton invited Wrinkle to host her very own “20 minute hip hop waddle” class.

Another TV personality Tammy Ly declared: “This duck is more athletic than I am.”

The most heartfelt message came from someone posting as gates_christina, who commented: “I know this may seem silly, but I’ve been so deeply depressed lately and seeing this little lady running has actually made me smile.”

Wrinkle the Duck’s official account responded: “As an official emotional support duck hearing this makes me feel like I’m doing my job well. Wrinkle loves you.”
