While renovating their home in Nottingham, England, Charlotte England-Black and her husband stumbled upon a delightful surprise in their attic.

Hidden among an old sink, a vintage cap, and some used overalls was a message written on a toilet paper roll.

This charming note was penned 35 years ago by a little girl named Emma Waddingham, who was seven at the time.

Written in red marker, the message read:

“I hope you enjoy staying here. Lots of love, from a friend.”

The note began with Emma introducing herself and sharing her birthday, February 4th, 1982, adding, “I’m seven years old and nearly eight.”

Curious about Emma’s whereabouts, Charlotte turned to a Facebook community page to track her down.

Amazingly, she was found within the hour.

Charlotte shared her excitement, saying, “It’d been up there years… It was really cute. She’d obviously written it hoping someone would find it one day. It really is quite touching.”

The Facebook post quickly connected Charlotte with Emma, who now goes by the last name Smith and is still living in Nottingham.

Emma, now 43, doesn’t recall writing the note but fondly remembers her childhood home.

She reflected, “I don’t remember doing it and why I chose the toilet roll. We’ll forever be wondering. It was a lovely place to spend those years. I had amazing wallpaper in my bedroom of Tom and Jerry.”

Charlotte plans to leave the cardboard tube in the attic for future homeowners to discover, hoping it will bring as much joy to them as it did to her.

“In another 35 years someone else might find it… It’ll be nice to see if it gets found.”
