Actor Billy Gardell, famous for his roles in the sitcoms “Mike & Molly” and “Bob Hearts Abishola,” has lost an incredible 150 pounds since the beginning of the pandemic.

Gardell underwent bariatric weight loss surgery almost two years ago at the recommendation of his medical team to reduce his risk of severe COVID-19. Recently, he spoke with “Entertainment Tonight” about what motivated him to transform his health, including working on improving his relationship with food.

Gardell’s weight loss journey has resulted in significant health improvements. His resting heart rate has dropped from 113 to 68, and he no longer has Type 2 diabetes. He feels healthy and grateful to have received the necessary push to take care of himself.

The 53-year-old actor acknowledges that he had not always been a “good example of health” for his son, but he is now determined to stay healthy for him and watch him reach all of life’s exciting milestones.

Gardell is still working on his vice, smoking, but he is determined to kick the habit. He has also been able to shop at a wider variety of clothing stores since losing weight, calling it a “real gift.” However, he joked that he is still adjusting to his new slimmer pants, which are too tight around the ankles.

His health transformation has also played out on air in “Bob Hearts Abishola,” where his character begins to focus more on his health after experiencing a heart attack. Gardell is thankful for the support of the show’s producers in being able to talk about his weight loss journey.
