Jean Bailey, a 102-year-old independent living resident at Elk Ridge Village in Omaha, Nebraska, has been leading fitness sessions for her neighbors since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The sessions, held four times a week, involve various movements that keep the whole body active, such as circular foot stretches and arm swimming stretches.

Approximately 10 to 12 residents attend Bailey’s class regularly, and although she is “kind of strict” about the moves, she encourages everyone to get started at their own pace and “just move.”

Aside from staying active, Bailey is also keen on keeping up with the community at Elk Ridge Village and enjoys playing card games and dealing blackjack specifically.

According to Sean Tran, an operations director at Elk Ridge Village, Bailey is “very welcoming to everyone” and maintains a “very positive outlook.”

Bailey said she doesn’t think there’s any secret to her longevity, but she believes genes and staying busy have played a role in her long life.
