Posted by Austonley Irish Wolfhounds, the adorable clip has garnered nearly 5 million views on TikTok.

The footage captures the moment when the dog’s owner invites it to sit on her knee, and in response, the gentle giant rests its head in her lap.

“That’s the cutest thing you’ve ever done!” the owner exclaims, clearly overwhelmed by the affectionate display.

Known as the tallest breed among those recognized by the American Kennel Club, the Irish wolfhound stands tall at up to 32 inches and can weigh up to 120 pounds.

Described by the AKC as “calm, dignified, and kindly,” these majestic creatures have won the hearts of many dog enthusiasts.

The couple behind Austonley Irish Wolfhounds, based in West Yorkshire, England, got their first Irish wolfhound eight years ago, and it changed their lives forever.

Now proud owners of 11 of these magnificent dogs, they make sure to provide them with plenty of exercise.

Living in an area abundant with woodlands, moorlands, rivers, and reservoirs, they take their furry companions on exhilarating walks twice a day. And let’s not forget the serious doggy socializing at the numerous dog-friendly pubs in their vicinity!

The Irish wolfhound boasts a rich history, having been favored by royalty and nobility throughout the ages.

According to the AKC, the breed acquired its modern name in the 15th century when these dogs were known for their prowess in hunting and eliminating the wolves that roamed the British Isles.

However, as times changed and wolves and other large game faced extinction by the 1700s, the Irish wolfhound nearly suffered the same fate.

The AKC humorously notes that “this was a case of a breed doing its job too well for its own good.”

Contrary to their intimidating stature, as exemplified in the endearing video, Irish wolfhounds are now known for their affectionate nature. They would much rather snuggle up on the couch than engage in fights.

The AKC emphasizes that they are “totally unsuitable as guard dogs, watch dogs, or patrol dogs.” While they remain alert, their temperament is far from suspicious, and although they possess courage, aggression is not in their nature.

Viewers of the video couldn’t help but express their delight.

One TikTok user commented, “I’m convinced that hug would solve all my problems,” while another heartwarmingly wrote, “That is so heartwarming and inviting. Pure love thereβ€”cherish it.”

It’s no wonder this delightful display of affection has captured the hearts of millions online. The Irish wolfhound proves once again that even the largest and most regal creatures have an innate desire for love and affection.
