Dog Turns Cat Flap into Stealthy Neighborhood Watch
Quick Smiles:
- Vizsla dog uses cat flap as “spy hole” for neighborhood watch
- TikTok video shows Loki’s dedication to his duty
- Vizslas are known to be reliable watchdogs with a sense of alertness
One neighborhood watchdog has found a crafty way to keep an eye on things. In a TikTok video shared on January 17 by @loki_vizsla, a vizsla dog decided to use the cat flap on the door to perform his neighborhood watch duties. He made the most of the resources already available to him.
The dog, named Loki, comfortably settled on the floor and cozied up to the cat flap. He poked out his snout and up to his eyes, making sure he could see without being noticed by passersby. He was attempting to go full stealth mode.

The video’s text reads: “I’m so thankful my humans put this spy hole in for me.” Loki was so focused on his job that he didn’t realize the “spy hole” wasn’t originally meant for this purpose, nor did he notice his owner filming him. His dedication to his work is truly admirable and definitely deserves a treat raise.
The video’s comments were filled with people laughing at Loki’s antics. Newsweek reached out via TikTok for more information.
Loki’s laser focus is not surprising, as vizslas are known to be reliable watchdogs. They are loving, gentle, friendly, and affectionate dogs that form strong bonds with their families, making them naturally protective. Vizslas are attentive and responsive to their owner’s emotions, and their sense of alertness makes them excellent guard dogs.
However, while vizslas can help alert owners to potential threats, they don’t have the same protective instincts as breeds specifically bred for guarding, such as Akitas, Belgian Malinois, bullmastiffs, German shepherds, and Rottweilers. These dogs have a strong sense of loyalty and have been bred to protect.
The Spruce Pets, a vet-reviewed pet website, advises guard dog owners to ensure their pets undergo obedience training and follow commands. This helps maintain a balance between protection and aggression.
