One heartwarming sight has the potential to brighten any day. A video featuring a steadfast basset hound, seemingly rooted in his human grandparents’ home, has been circulating on TikTok.

The entertaining video was posted by @macyleaptrott, and has attracted a significant viewership of over 410,000 since its initial release on April 2. The overlay text humorously reads: “Trying to leave grandma and grandpa’s.”

In the video, the dog can be seen rooted on the doorstep, resisting all efforts to get him to leave. Despite a woman’s urgency and coaxings, the dog remains unyielding.

After numerous failed attempts, the woman resorts to gently tugging the hound away from the door by his collar.

The loyalty this hound exhibits towards his grandparents aligns well with a study published in the International Journal of Community Well-Being in August 2019. The study proposes that “dogs hold a unique significance for senior individuals.”

The study further elucidates that dogs provide several physical, emotional, and social benefits to older adults. Seniors with a deep attachment to their pets often see them as cherished family members rather than merely beneficial animals.

These findings are supported by data from a National Poll on Healthy Aging conducted in April 2019 by the University of Michigan Institute for Healthcare Policy and Innovation. Amongst 2,051 respondents aged 50 to 80, a significant 79 percent reported that their pets help reduce stress, and an impressive 73 percent believed their pets provide them with a sense of purpose.

Particularly for those in fair or poor health, pet ownership brings additional advantages. Over 70 percent of older adults who described their health as fair or poor said their pets help them manage physical or emotional symptoms.

Online viewers found immense entertainment in the dog’s unwillingness to leave his grandparents’ home.
