Lily Kwan, 10, was out for a walk with her six-year-old Yorkshire terrier named Macy. It could have been a casual stroll until a large, vicious coyote ruined the plan. In an instant, the coyote suddenly trailed them, and Lily and Macy’s only choice was to run.

Lily was so terrified. She ran down the street to call for help, while dragging Macy by her leash. Panicking, the little girl dropped the pup’s leash as she ran onto a porch for help.

“I ran to the sidewalk and started screaming for help,” Lily said. “No one heard me. I just saw this coyote trying to attack my dog and I tried to ring on people’s doorbells and knock on people’s doors but this one neighbor actually let me in.”

Macy belongs to one of the smallest breeds of dog, weighing only around five to seven pounds at adulthood. But this didn’t stop her from fighting this big Goliath back in order to protect her little sister.

The tiny pup went head-to-head with the large animal, squaring up against him in several heart-stopping moments. Despite being grabbed and shaken brutally, Macy did not give up — all for the love for her little sister.

Fortunately, the neighbor that Lily asked helped from was able to make the coyote run away, and that saved little Macy from getting more injuries.

The encounter left the poor pup with several deep puncture wounds on her torso and leg, which needed expensive surgery and made her spend a week in the hospital to recover.

“She’s a super brave dog, I love her so much and I just thought this tiny dog could protect this huge human being, trying to fight off this huge coyote,” Lily said, who didn’t expect that coyotes would attack in broad daylight.

Dorothy Kwan, Lily’s mother, launched a GoFundMe to help with the costs of their unexpected vet bill. People from across the nation were touched by little Macy’s bravery and love for her little sister. So far, the family has raised over $35,000!

“Macy is resting a lot but so happy to be alive and on the mend,” Dorothy said. “I am slowly gaining confidence as her 24/7 pet care provider, though emptying her drains is still quite a challenge.”
