Quick Smiles:

  • Baby kitten rescued from a Birmingham sewage system and found a loving home.
  • Fox and badger saved from tricky spots in gardens and sports nets.
  • Wildlife including owls, seagulls, and falcons given a second chance after unusual mishaps.

The RSPCA has revealed some of their most unusual and uplifting animal rescues from 2025, featuring animals in all sorts of surprising predicaments.

From foxes stuck in furniture and delivery vans to a badger tangled in a goal net, each animal’s story ends with a compassionate rescue.

A dramatic moment unfolded in Birmingham when a kitten, affectionately named Olivia Twist, was saved from the sewage system after being discovered by attentive staff.

“She was trapped down a sewage flow system and we think she must have fallen from quite a height above as there was no other way she could have got herself in there,” said Cara Gibbon, one of the rescuers.

Olivia Twist received care at an animal hospital before being happily rehomed.

Another remarkable rescue included a fox freed from wedged garden furniture and a second fox cub discovered inside a delivery van engine in Derby, only spotted after setting off a warning light.

Birds also had their share of dramatic moments. A peregrine falcon in Birmingham and a seagull in Ramsgate were cared for after being entangled in nets.

In Sheffield, a badger was untangled from a football goal, while a hedgehog in Somerset recovered after an encounter with a weed whacker and was released back into the wild.

A tawny owl was saved in Wales after being found hanging from a branch high above swift waters.

RSPCA superintendent Simon Osborne shared, “Every single day throughout the year, our teams rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home hundreds of animals with very special backgrounds and stories of triumph over adversity.”

With every rescue, the RSPCA celebrates the determined spirit of both animals and their rescuers, showing that even the wackiest situations can end on a happy note.
