  • Athena was found by construction workers in September and was rescued right away by the organization called Be Intentional.
  • The pup was in bad shape and clearly lived a rough life on the streets.
  • Now she is undergoing multiple treatments and will be ready for adoption soon.

Athena surely knows how to beg attention. Whenever she looks at you with puppy dog eyes while carrying her food bowl, it would be impossible for you to resist her.

The sweet stray dog was found by construction workers from Southeast Texas in September. They gave the 6-year-old German shepherd some water and called the local rescue shelter Be Intentional.

The vet examined Athena and she was clearly in bad shape!

“She had a harness that was way too small for her that was removed,” the founder of Be Intentional, Christie Kasko, told The Dodo. “She had every parasite in her system. She also has one of the worst cases of sarcoptic mange the vet has seen.”

But the pup was so sweet and all she wanted was some love. “She is an absolute doll at the vet hospital,” Christie said. “They have fallen in love with her.”

While Athena was undergoing treatments for her various health problems, she discovered the best way to win everyone’s heart and give her treats — that’s by holding up her food bowl and giving anyone passing by the sweetest look in her eyes.

“She gets lots of attention and plenty of food,” Christie said. “But she has figured out that holding her bowl with her cute little face tends to get her more cuddles.”

The Be Intentional works with Sauver Des Chiens German Shepherd Dog Rescue to look for a fit foster family for Athena who could take care of her, make her get used to a new life, and teach her to trust humans again.

“She will be pampered to no end,” Karen Blanchard at the Sauver Des Chiens told The Dodo. “She has an orthopedic bed, an open crate, and lots of bowls to carry around.”

Once she has recovered completely, Athena will soon be ready to find his family and forever home.

“She will continue healing and transition to a life with love and a family,” Christie said. “Her life will be forever changed for the better.”
