- A recent high school graduate was just tending to their cherry orchard when a helicopter crash landed on him.
- Logan Schneider extricated himself out of his tractor’s wheels and saved the pilot who was dangling from his harness and screaming for help.
- The pair escaped the inferno from the crashed helicopter and were brought to the hospital for their injuries.
Logan Schneider was riding a tractor in their cherry orchard in Wenatchee, Washington when a helicopter crash landed on him! Because of his noise canceling headphones, he only heard thumps. As he looked up, the helicopter was coming straight at him already.
On its way down, the helicopter’s blades took out high voltage power lines which started a fire.
While struggling to get out of the wheel of the tractor, Logan heard the screams of help of pilot Cori Johnson.
Loan recounted, “I heard him screaming. I looked and I saw him upside down hanging. Fire was everywhere. When I was in the moment I really wasn’t thinking. I was just doing.”
Logan ran up to the pilot, unhooked the safety harness and they both scrambled for safety. In seconds, flames rising up to 30-feet engulfed the area.
Logan could not believe how they both managed to get out of the fiery scene.
Firefighters immediately de-energized the power lines, put out the flame and brought Logan and Cori to the hospital. Logan had second-degree burns on his arms and muscle damage in his back while Cori had multiple burns and a broken arm.
And there, Logan learned that Cori and him share the same birthday. Logan also had plans of enrolling in aviation school. The crash brought all the desire back to be a pilot.
Logan said, “I feel like I always have someone watching over me, God watching over me, protecting me. And you never know when it could be your last moment.”
What an incredible story of bravery and coincidences.
We wish Logan and Cori speedy recoveries!
