30-Pound cat shocks shelter staff [Video]

When Disco the cat was dropped off at the shelter on December 17, the staff were shocked. Weighing around 30 pounds, he was one chonky cat!

Thirty pounds is definitely a lot more than a cat his size should weigh. The staff of the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) knew that they had to get him started on his weight loss journey so he could be healthy.

Cody Costra, the HSPPR’s public relations and content specialist, shared, “He was free-fed in his previous home, and apparently he doesn’t have a lot of self-control.”

Disco was a very happy cat despite his weight, however, and he quickly got along with everyone.

Cody called Disco “the friendliest cat you could ever imagine.”

“He’s a giant love bug that has been friendly to every staff member that has interacted with him,” Cody added. “He likes to purr for attention, lean into you for pets and give soft blinks.”

Disco is now on a weight loss journey with the help of his foster family.

Once he gets healthier and achieves his target weight, they can start the search for his new forever family.

The shelter staff believe that it won’t take long to find a perfect fit. Disco gets along well with everyone after all, including other cats, dogs, and people.

The only thing to keep in mind is that Disco will need a family who can continue his healthy eating plan.

The shelter staff were definitely shocked when they saw Disco and his sheer size. But they were pleasantly surprised to discover what a bundle of joy he is.
