Cat Who Doesn’t Want to Snuggle Now Takes Every Chance She Gets with The New Baby

  • Grace the cat loves his alone time and she is not a fan of cuddling either.
  • Grace’s family worries how the cat would react to the new baby that was about to arrive at their house.
  • As it turns out, the cat would find snuggling the baby a favorite hobby.

Jeannie Seiler-Laderer took Grace home from a rescue shelter five years ago. The cat has now gotten used to having the family on her side. This, she adores, but the cat is keen on keeping her alone time.

“Grace is a very friendly cat, but she does like to keep her distance,” Jeannie says. “She wants to snuggle on her own terms, but on her terms only.”

The family wondered how their pet cats would react to the new addition when Jeannie became pregnant. It was when they began preparing to welcome the baby into their home that they joked around about Grace no showing interest.

“We always joked that when Jensen was born, Grace was gonna be the one cat out of all three who would be the least interested,” Jeannie said.

Things started that way when baby Jensen was brought home for the first time, Grace ignores him, seeming as if the cat does not understand what the baby is.

Until suddenly, something just changed about the relationship between the two: Jensen is suddenly the Grace’s favorite.

“It took a solid six weeks for Grace to realize the baby is a new human and that she favored him,” Jeannie said. “She follows him EVERYWHERE now.”

Now, where the baby goes, the cat goes. The new parents are more than surprised at how protective the cat is over the baby on the house.

“When we go to leave, she blocks the door, so we have to try to hold her back so she doesn’t try to come with us,” Jeannie said. “When we come home, she’s the first one to greet us at the door, and before she couldn’t have cared less. During all of Jensen’s nap times, she has to be curled up next to him or on him, especially during his evening naps.”

The cat who was not into cuddling snuggles up with the baby all the time.

“They cuddle together during just about all of his naps, and also she’s been trying to sneak into his bassinet in the morning to also cuddle with him, but for safety reasons we have to keep her out,” Jeannie said.

Today, there is no doubt in the minds of their parents that Grace and Jensen are destined to be best friends for a very long time.

“We were so surprised with how much she loved him because for the longest time, we just never thought she had her specific person,” Jeannie said. “When she was bored, or lonely, she would go seek out someone to love on her but it was never anyone specifically. Now she always seeks out Jensen.”
