Heart-Covered Cat Wins Adoptive Mom’s Love

• Katie Duda’s family was in mourning at the sudden loss of their cat Lucky when she saw two kittens posted for adoption.
• Upon reaching home, they noticed that the other cat was covered in heart-shaped spots in his coat.
• Through time, the kitten proved that he not only has a coat covered in heart spots but a heart full of love to go with it.

Losing a fur family member is heartbreaking.  Getting another one can help heal a broken heart.  So, when Katie Duda saw a photo of two kittens at Wrenn Rescues, she did not hesitate in adopting the two to help ease her mourning for her beloved cat Lucky who suddenly died.

When she went to pick up the siblings River and Remi, she noticed that there was something special about River. 

Katie said, “I thought I noticed a heart on his chest when I picked them up from the foster home, but I wasn’t sure.”  She added that she did not really look closely and played with the kittens but just put her faith in Wrenn Rescues.

As River and Remi adapted to their new home, their shyness also slowly disappeared.  That is also the time that they began to notice more heart-shaped spots in River’s coat.

Katie related, “I confirmed [one on] his chest, noticed his nose was more heart-shaped than most cats, then under his paws, chin and more.  To date, we’ve found seven complete hearts and two spots that look heartish at times.”

River is not just literally covered in hearts but he also figuratively has a heart full of love.

His loving ways and Remi’s presence has helped heal Katie’s family from Lucky’s passing and brought them peace.

His love is not just for the family but also for his little brother Remi who he guards over. According to Katie, “Yesterday, Remi wanted to sit in a large potted plant in our dining room. I had put foil in the pot to discourage the kittens from playing with the dirt and Remi was displeased. I watched River kindly remove the foil for Remi so he could lay in the dirt.”

The overflowing hearts in his coat also shows the abundance of love in his heart.

Katie thinks that River’s hearts are the late Lucky’s way of making sure they know how much he loved them. “River’s hearts may not be a literal message to my family, but the love they bring is very real.”
