- Ariani performed an original song and a second dedicated piece that led to a standing ovation from the audience and judges, with Cowell praising her as one of the best singers the show has ever seen.
- The Golden Buzzer moment was a significant milestone for Ariani, bringing her closer to her dreams of becoming an acclaimed musician like Whitney Houston and attending Juilliard in New York City.
Putri Ariani, a 17-year-old blind singer, didn’t just move the audience during her appearance on a recent episode of “America’s Got Talent.”
She also moved judge Simon Cowell to tears and prompted him to reach for the Golden Buzzer.
This Indonesian singer-songwriter who dreams of becoming an acclaimed artist like Whitney Houston, touched hearts with her music, passion, and resilience.
“My biggest challenge is people look at me as a blind person, not as a musician,” Putri confessed.
“But when I’m singing, I feel like a superstar,” she added.
She dreams of attending Juilliard and earning a Grammy.
Her original song, played beautifully on the piano, had the crowd cheering and Cowell visibly emotional.
So much so, that he asked her to sing another.
“This song is special for you, Simon,” Ariani said, dedicating her second performance to the typically stoic judge.
Upon finishing, Ariani received a standing ovation from the judges and audience alike.
Overwhelmed with joy, she responded to Sofia Vergara’s query about her feelings, stating, “I feel so excited. I can’t believe it.”
Vergara, echoing the thoughts of many, praised the young singer.
“It was amazing. We’re all mesmerized by you. Your voice, you’re an angel,” she said.
Cowell further applauded Ariani, saying, “You know, you’re 17, you write songs, you’ve got an amazing, distinctive voice. And I mean really, really good.”
In a wave of emotion, Cowell then struck the Golden Buzzer, and the stage was filled with a shower of metallic confetti.
Ariani, who could not contain her excitement, jumped up and down, celebrating her hard-earned victory.
In a rare show of sentiment, Cowell joined Ariani on stage, enveloping her in a hug.
“You are, I think, one of the best singers we’ve ever had on our show,” he lauded, highlighting the significance of this moment.
In response to host Terry Crews’ question on why he pushed the Golden Buzzer, Cowell simply stated, “Because she’s brilliant.”
He then handed her pieces of gold confetti, symbolizing her extraordinary accomplishment.
Backstage, the praises continued to pour in.
Cowell admitted he was “blown away” by Ariani’s talent and her skills as a songwriter.
Through tears, Ariani thanked him, whispering, “You make my dream come true.”
This memorable event took place during the 18th season of “AGT”, which premiered on May 30.
This season seems to promise an abundance of talent and emotional moments, as already showcased by the South Africa’s Mzansi Youth Choir’s own Golden Buzzer performance.
For Ariani, this Golden Buzzer moment has certainly put her one step closer to her dream of musical acclaim.
Her story of triumph continues to inspire and remind us all to dare to dream, no matter the odds.
