Following an accidental over-trimming of one of his nails by his owners, Gunner commenced his own peaceful protest.

Destiny Rayne Bonner, Gunner’s owner, posted the entertaining incident on TikTok. In the clip, Gunner seems to be resolutely neglecting his human family. “He won’t even look at us,” Bonner captions, documenting Gunner’s stubborn gaze elsewhere.

Gunner, a member of the Bonner homestead since January 2022, is no routine pet. “The German short-haired pointer has always been the dream dog of my husband. It was a dream come true the day we finally got him,” Bonner expressed. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Gunner is an invigorated puppy with a robust enthusiasm for the outdoors.

Bonner detailed, “He’s a very active pup. He loves the outdoors. He’s excellent at fetch and joins my husband for duck hunting during the hunting season.” However, there’s one activity this otherwise energetic dog isn’t overly fond of —nail trimming.

“He doesn’t have his nails trimmed frequently, but they had grown exceptionally long recently, and we knew we had to cut them,” Bonner commented. Gunner doesn’t exactly relish nail trims but tolerates them as any obedient dog would.

However, this specific nail-trimming occasion was more challenging than usual. As Bonner recalls, “My husband was doing a great job trimming, I was providing light with my phone for him to see better, then he accidentally cut a nail a bit too short and we felt terrible.”

“Gunner barely even winced,” Bonner reported. “He responded immediately in a very somber way and wouldn’t even look at us.” Gunner’s reaction resembled a disgruntled child. “He turned his head and wouldn’t look at us or anything when we tried consoling him. He seemed so disheartened and irate with us.”

Pets often occupy the same place in a family as a youngster. A survey carried out by OnePoll in 2022 on behalf of Pet Honesty showed that 25 percent of the 2,000 cat and dog owners questioned referred to their pets as their “children.”

Just as in any family, this minor dispute was soon resolved. “The silent treatment didn’t last long, only a few minutes, and as soon as I brought out the treats he was okay and quickly forgave,” Bonner added. “Gunner is quite a tough dog. He’s so brave, so once treats were involved, he was good to go and ready to play again.”

This entertaining occurrence didn’t remain confined to the Bonner household. Destiny Bonner’s TikTok video of Gunner’s reaction rapidly drew the attention of millions. “I was stunned by his response since I had never seen him behave this way. Capturing it seemed the natural thing to do, given his adorableness and how humanlike his reaction was,” she explained. “The reception to the video has surprised me. I did not anticipate it going viral.”
