  • Joyful matches boost community spirit and inspire more students to join.

A lively chair volleyball game at Woodland Cottages in Belton, Texas, has blossomed into a heartwarming connection between Lake Belton High School athletes and their senior neighbors.

The seniors, affectionately named “The Hit Squad,” host matches filled with laughter, energy, and friendly rivalry alongside the student team.

“We just laugh and laugh when we practice,” said Hit Squad member Charlotte Wheeler.

Residents even attended a school match to surprise eight senior athletes with personalized goodie bags, while students return the kindness through frequent, cheerful visits.

“I’m ready to get some wisdom and skills from those who know more than I do,” shared high schooler Thia Allsion.

Interest continues to grow, with other student teams eager to participate in these spirited games and heartfelt moments.

Residents say they are experiencing greater social engagement, more physical activity, and a renewed sense of purpose, all thanks to these cross-generational gatherings.
