Firefighters Rescue Horses From Icy Pond

• The horses were safely led out of an icy pond and received care from a local veterinarian.
• Community members celebrated the dedication of both the fire crew and the veterinarian.

Severe winter weather recently swept across the United States, bringing icy conditions that caught many off guard. While most people stayed indoors, first responders like the Cuba Fire Protection District in Missouri sprang into action for both human and animal safety.

The team was called out when two horses became trapped in a frozen pond. They quickly created a safe path through the ice, guiding the animals to safety.

“This morning Cuba Fire was requested to assist with getting 2 horses out of a pond after they had walked out on the snow covered ice. Personnel were able to break a path and lead the horses out of the water. The horses were checked by a local veterinarian and found the horses to be in good condition. Great job by fire personnel in cold conditions and a huge thanks to Veterinarian KC Swope for responding and providing assistance. The horses were taken to a dry barn and were doing well,” it wrote on Facebook.
