A family in Green Bay is filled with gratitude after an act of bravery saved their daughter from a terrifying accident.

On moving day near Bond Street, 6-year-old Honeretta broke away from family, running straight toward a busy street.

Honeretta, who has autism, loves to turn running into a playful game.

“She elopes and she thinks it’s funny,” said her mother, Faith Roberts. “It becomes a game of chase.”

Grandmother Tynetta Johnson was struck by fear as she watched Honeretta get farther from her, close to a bridge and heavy traffic.

“In my mind, there’s water over here, there’s a bridge over here, there’s a busy street over here,” she said. “As I’m running, she’s got a half block lead over me.”

Desperate, Johnson called out for help—and the call was answered by a courageous man.

He immediately ran into the street, stopping cars and racing to Honeretta just in time.

“He didn’t think about himself. He thought about her,” Johnson said.

The Roberts family soon learned their hero, Weldon, was experiencing homelessness and staying at the NEW Community Shelter, but his quick thinking and kindness shone through.

Weldon didn’t want anything in return. “He was just like, ‘Happy to help. Happy I was there,’” Roberts said. “I tried to offer him something, and he said, ‘No, I don’t want anything. I was just happy to help.’”

Humbled by the gratitude, Weldon simply said, “I just do my best, and I hope in anybody’s situation like that somebody would do the same.”
