What happens when a new bandana, a dog, and a slightly confused cat are mixed? A million views and a barrel of laughs on TikTok! The owner’s surprise was unmistakable when she shared a video of her cat, Ozzy, being startled by his lifelong housemate, a dog, who was simply sporting a stylish bandana.

Ozzy was in disbelief. His tail puffed out, a clear sign of his heightened anxiety about the unfamiliar ‘intruder.’ This tail-puffing behavior, formally known as piloerection, is a common reaction by cats when they’re angry, scared, cold, or just playing.

In Ozzy’s case, disbelief combined with a little fear. He couldn’t understand that the dog, casually strutting around with his new bandana, was his canine buddy. He kept a vigilant eye on the ‘stranger.’

Despite his alarm, Ozzy was cautious. He chose to keep a safe distance, slowly retreating behind the dining room table and ultimately finding shelter high up in his cat tree.

While all this was happening, Ozzy’s human tried to alleviate his confusion. She reassured him with words, “That’s the same doggy you lived with your whole life,” while humorously calling her pet the “dumbest cat.” It could have been the fresh grooming that confused Ozzy. With neatly trimmed paws and a sleek, shiny coat, the dog did look spruced up, but not entirely unfamiliar.

Interestingly, the other cats in the house were not disturbed. They recognized their doggy sibling, bandana or not, while Ozzy stayed in his bubble of confusion.
