Quick Smiles:

  • Stanley, or “Stan the Man”, a rescued Staffordshire bull terrier, has become an internet sensation for his love of ice cream.
  • Every time he hears the ice cream truck’s jingle, Stanley runs for it and even “waits in line” with the children.
  • Despite potential health risks, Stanley’s ritual has warmed the hearts of many, and his family delights in his newfound fame.

A recent Instagram post featuring an enthusiastic dog racing to the local ice cream truck has become an internet sensation. The charming video, shared by user @meganmurphy_hair, captures the endearing moment when Stanley, affectionately known as “Stan the Man,” rushes to get his frozen treat. Since it was posted, the video has had more than 184,000 views in just five days.

Stanley, a friendly Staffordshire bull terrier, was rescued and adopted by the Murphy family in 2018. For the past two years, he’s been enjoying a special treat — ice cream. “He hears the jingle music and barks and cries to get out the front door. If there are kids in the queue, he waits in line, wagging his tail and looking up at everyone,” Megan Murphy shared.

Stanley’s wholesome behavior has resulted in many comments from viewers. One user, @rebeccahughes_fit, wrote, “This is such a beautiful memory you will cherish forever,” while @itspaulryder shared, “I’m obsessed.”

However, it’s important to note, dogs and dairy don’t always mix. Catrin George, an animal welfare specialist, warns: “While many are aware of the dangers of giving chocolate to dogs, similar caution should be applied to dairy products in general. Dogs lack the enzyme necessary to break down lactose in milk, which means that consuming ice cream can lead to severe discomfort.”

In addition to digestive problems, the high sugar content in ice cream can also cause dental issues in dogs. George suggested trying frozen fruit such as apple slices or carrots, or a frozen unsweetened yogurt treat on a hot day as alternatives to ice cream.

This isn’t the first time that dogs and ice cream have been a viral sensation. In the past, there have been instances of ice cream-loving dogs garnering attention online. From last year’s Labrador retriever racing toward an ice-cream truck, to two dogs known for their distinctive ice cream-eating styles, our furry friends’ love for these frozen treats is clear.
