  • Amazon driver John Cassabria was delivering packages as usual when he saw a dog struggling at a backyard pool.
  • He climbed the fence and jumped into the pool without thinking much because he was so worried about the poor dog.
  • The dog’s owner on the other hand was very thankful for the delivery driver’s selfless act in saving her senior dog.

Earlier this summer, John Cassabria was out doing his work as a delivery driver for Amazon, distributing packages to the residents in Woburn, Massachusetts, when he spotted a dog barely trying to keep himself afloat in a backyard pool.

He said he was so worried when he saw the poor pup and jumped in to help him without thinking much.

He didn’t even take anything off including his wallet, his phone, nor his watch. Because for him, “none of that mattered.”

“I thought only of the dog at the moment,” he said.

The dog he saved is a 14-year-old named Luka who, according to his owner, Julie Caldwell, has bad hind legs and must’ve not survived swimming in the water for long if John did not arrive in time.

John thought it was the bone that got stuck in the pool’s vacuum that lured Luka into it.

Julie, on the other hand, had just left for a vacation and was away for just 2 hours when she heard the news after the Animal Control called her and informed her of the incident. John accompanied the dog for 1.5 hours before the dog sitter arrived.

“I happened to be in the right moment at the right time,” he said. “I would repeat the same actions over and over if I had to.”

Julie sent a commendation letter to the CEO of Amazon as she thanked John for saving her senior dog.

“Words cannot express how grateful we are to him. In fact I have tears in my eyes as I write this email,” reads the letter which Boston.com got a copy of. “Luka is doing fine thanks to your wonderful and courageous employee.”
