Dog thinks blueberries are her buddies [Video]

• Ava made friends with the blueberries, never once ate them!

Dogs have certain obsessions. Ava happens to have a fetish on toys, and she just loves every toy she has.

Her mom Talia Henze can attest to this. She said that Ava, in all ways and always, carries a toy with her, cares for it like a living creature.

“Any time anything happens, her answer is to bring over a toy,” Talia said. “And I mean any time. If anyone laughs, if she sees anyone sad, she gets up and brings over a toy.”

Ava’s special fancy over toys went a little overboard when even a blueberry was considered a toy she has to care for.

It happened when Talia was eating blueberries one day, and upon seeing Ava so curious, she decided to give her some to munch on. But instead of eating the sweet fruit, Ava treated the blueberry differently.

“She’s been trained to only eat her treats and long-lasting chew stuff on her elevated bed or in her crate, so she naturally just brings new toys, treats, etc. to those places,” Talia said. “So, it didn’t surprise me that she brought the berry to it. But she just never ate it.”

What happened next gave Talia so much delight!

Ava carried the blueberry around, so carefully and tenderly, not wanting to break it. That was the beginning of Ava’s bond with the blueberry. To her, it was her buddy.

“She kind of just carried it around to her different places for a while and snuggled it,” Talia said. “When she eventually got bored and left it in her crate, I tried showing her [how] to eat it by breaking it open. She wanted nothing to do with it when it was broken.”

Talia tried to give Ava some blueberries on other days, hoping she would, too, find them delicious — just like a snack. But Ava seemed to have made up her mind that blueberries are not meant to be eaten — they are, and will always be, her friends!
