In a delightful display of canine cunning, a foster dog named Ruby has been caught on camera feigning sleep to dodge bedtime in her crate. The video, which has tickled the funny bones of internet users, is a testament to Ruby’s “super intelligence,” according to her owner.

The video, which has garnered over 12,000 views since it was first posted on TikTok on November 29, shows Ruby convincingly simulating a deep slumber atop her daybed. “My foster dog pretending she’s asleep so that she doesn’t have to go to her crate,” Caitlyn Cohrs, Ruby’s owner, captioned the post.

Cohrs explained to Newsweek, “Ruby is my second foster and I have been crate rotating her to help everyone adjust, and eventually do slow introductions.” She added, “Our nightly routine is to cuddle on the couch, watch television or read before she goes up to her room and crate for the evening.”

“On that evening, she saw me looking at her, then closed her eyes and started snoring. She’s a super intelligent pup and knows how to play on my heart strings! I don’t think it was a coincidence. She knows that I won’t bother her when she’s snoozing and that I will wait for her to get up before heading upstairs for bed,” she continued.

Cohrs, who runs the TikTok account @hi.im.tatertot, has a long history of caring for dogs. “Tater tot, who I call Tate, is my first rescue dog. He completely changed by life for the better and inspired me to start fostering dogs last year. That’s when I adopted my first foster,” she shared.
