Nursing home residents come to life when puppies visit to cheer them up

  • Seniors came to life when their nursing home in the U.K. was flooded with adorable puppies.
  • A group of Pomeranian and British bulldog puppies visited the care home to cheer up the residents.
  • Experts say puppies can help lower anxiety, deal with depression and stress, conquer loneliness and even reduce physical pain.

Residents of a care home in the U.K. enjoyed a heartwarming visit from a group of Pomeranian and British bulldogs.

A video of the visit shows the residents of Romford Grange Care stroking the puppies, hugging them, and having their noses licked in return.

Larry Cooley, the owner of The Bully Ranch, organized the thoughtful visit as part of the “Bully Ranch to you” project.

The Romford Grange Care trip is a personal one, according to Larry. He organized the visit to lift the spirits of the residents at the care home.

“Being raised by my nan and grandad in the East End of London, I have always had the utmost respect for the elderly, always helping out carrying bags and doing what I could to contribute,” Larry said.

“Puppies and dogs have amazing benefits such as lowering anxiety, helping with depression, stress, conquering loneliness and even reducing physical pain.”

Larry added, “From the moment we entered the care home there were smiles all round from staff and residents. It was a really nice atmosphere I must say.

It’s not a secret that loneliness takes a toll on the elderly living in nursing homes, especially after the effect of the pandemic.

“During the pandemic, it was hard not to notice that the elderly were affected dramatically, with no visits from family and friends and the massive change in the climate,” Larry noted.

“The residents in the care home had a rough two years but [when] they were told we were coming to visit, they were very excited and kept asking after us.”
