  • Queen Elizabeth was famous for a lot of things.  One of them is her love of Corgis.
  • The Corgis had a run of the castle, and the grounds at Balmoral and even accompanied the Queen in her travels.
  • A Corgi group in Perth Australia has gathered to give honor to the Queen by dressing their corgis in royal attire.

When news of her Majesty the Queen’s passing spread all over the world, millions expressed their sympathies.

Australia, being one of the commonwealth states of the United Kingdom, was one of the firsts to offer condolences.

And in the days following her passing, one of the most unique ways that the world has honored the Queen, the Perth Corgi group assembled almost 50 dogs dressed in royal finery at Langley Park in Perth.

One of the attendees, Minnesota-native Tessa Vernstrom, who is studying in Australia, said, “I have seen already that there is another event on the way, planned by the Melbourne Corgi group. I think many other corgi groups will follow.” She added, “She was an important figure for the breed and she played a big role in bringing attention to the world.”

Queen Elizabeth II was perhaps the most famous person in the world associated with the breed. In her lifetime, she had more than 30 Welsh Corgis.  At the time of her death, she left behind 5 dogs.

In a BBC report, the late Queen and her Corgis were inseparable.  During her wedding to Prince Philip, her corgi Susan was sneaked into the royal carriage under a rug. Susan also became the start of all the queen’s Corgis and “dorgis” or a mixed breed borne out of a Dachshund and Corgi.

Her Corgis would accompany her around the palace, in her walks at Balmoral and even travel with her on land, sea and air.

In opening the London Olympics, the corgis preceded Queen Elizabeth and James Bond, portrayed by Daniel Craig, to the helicopter.

And now that she has passed, people are wondering how the 5 pups are doing.  It is comforting to know that they will be looked after by Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
