Rejected Dog With Tumor Bounced Back After Successful Surgery

Published

  • Boo Boo was rejected and dumped at a municipal shelter perhaps because she had a large tumor on her chest.
  • But a rescue organization stepped in to help her bounce back to life.
  • Through their help, she underwent a successful surgery and now she has found her forever home.

Boo Boo endured a large tumor on her cheat that was 3.2 pounds mass! It was so big and heavy that it was about one third of her own body weight!

Because of that, the 13-year dachshund had difficulty in walking and she was surrendered to a municipal shelter in San Francisco.

After learning of her predicament, the Muttville Senior Dog Rescue decided to step in and turn around her situation.

“The guardians never took her in or tried to treat that tumor as it grew. And it grew to the point where it was literally dragging and starting to chafe on the ground because dachshunds have those little short legs,” the organization’s founder, Sherri Franklin, told TODAY. “We immediately said we would take her because we knew that there was no way she was going to make it out of the shelter alive because it’s a big surgery and it’s an unknown.”

So they wrapped the sweet girl in a belly band to hold the tumor up and took her to a veterinarian for cancer examination. Luckily, her bloodwork was found to be doing just fine and that the mass was not cancerous at all. They had a surgeon remove the tumor and soon enough Boo Boo was recovering.

“She came to us as a happy dog who couldn’t walk,” Sherri said. “Now she acts like a puppy. She has a whole new life ahead of her.”

Everybody was happy to see thay Boo Boo has transformed to a better version of herself without the tumor. But best of all, they were thrilled that finally, Boo Boo has found her forever home with her new owner, Ashley Shuster.

“I’ve always wanted a dog,” Ashley, 26, told TODAY. “I was watching Muttville’s website really closely. Then I saw Boo Boo. She had a little party hat on in her photo. I was immediately drawn to her. Also, my grandma had dachshunds her whole life, and that brought up a lot of really good childhood memories.”

Ashley and Boo Boo love going out for a walk by the beach near the Golden Gate Bridge. The sweet pup finally showed her playful personality and Ashley felt so lucky to have her. They were meant to be together.
