  • Kayley Drewitt was walking one of her clients’ dogs at the park one day when she spotted a cardboard box filled with tennis balls.
  • The heartwarming message written on the box said that an old dog, Jarvis, wanted to impart his beloved balls to younger pups.
  • Kayley has since arranged a meeting with Jarvis’ mom, so that “Jarvis can meet some of the younger dogs now benefiting from all the balls he’s gifted.”

Kayley Drewitt runs The Animal Ark Pet Services, so she spends a lot of time outdoors with her clients’ dogs. One day, she was walking a dog in Ely Country Park when she spotted a cardboard box she had never seen before. She was initially curious, but when she saw the message scrawled on it, it immediately struck her as heartwarming.

“I couldn’t believe it. I had never seen anything like that before,” she said. “I thought it was an incredible gesture. Something really heartwarming.”

The message, written in Sharpie on the side of the box, read: “I am too old to play with my favorite tennis balls now. But it would make me very happy to know that some younger doggies would have fun with them. Love from Jarvis Cocker Spaniel.”

The balls immediately caught the attention of the dog Kayley was walking.

He didn’t need to read the message, after all. He simply stuck his nose in the box, pulled out a ball, and started playing.

Kayley then played fetch with him for quite a while, and he even tried out a lot of different balls!

Kayley snapped a few photos of the box, as well as their playtime, and shared them on social media to thank Jarvis’ owner. She said that she also hoped that other dog owners will be inspired by the idea.

Her post immediately gained attention and even reached Jarvis’ mom, who let Kayley know how happy she was to see other dogs having a great time with the balls.

She said that Jarvis, a cocker spaniel, is nearly 11. Due to severe arthritis, he can no longer play like he used to. But his mom understood that he’d want other dogs to have fun with his beloved tennis balls.

Kayley has since planned a surprise for Jarvis for his next trip to the park.

“We have agreed to meet up for a dog walk sometime soon, so Jarvis can meet some of the younger dogs now benefiting from all the balls he’s gifted,” she said.

That’s such a nice thing to do! We’re so excited for Jarvis to meet his new friends!
