- One unmoving turtle was spotted on the shore by the Escobar family while on a boat ride.
- They thought she was dead but when Miguel Angel Escobar checked on her, she moved and so Escobar worked hard to untangle her from the roots.
- Upon being set free from the roots, the turtle swam safely back to sea.
When turtles come to shore to lay their eggs, they could get entangled in roots and other debris on the shore or on the embankments when they go back to the sea.
This is what might have happened to one momma turtle and when she had grown very tired of disentangling herself from the roots of a tree, she just gave up hope.
But she was lucky that on that day, Miguel Ángel Escobar and his family were out on a boat and they spotted her massive form. They were heartbroken at first to see her as they assumed she was dead.
But she wasn’t and Escobar was also adamant about taking a closer look to be sure. He pulled the boat to shore and checked on the turtle which remained motionless.
Escobar said, “When I touched her, she instantly let out a sigh and she started to move her head.”
With that slight movement, Escobar immediately took out his knife and began cutting through the roots until the turtle was free.
She stayed for a while near the beach, recovering from her ordeal then swam strongly to the deeper parts of the sea.
Escobar recalled, “I thought that the turtle would need to rest on the shore and recover her strength, but she instantly swam away, strong and fast, like someone who was jumping for joy.”
She could just be doing that because had it not been for Escobar, she could have perished. Escobar came to save her.
Escobar said, “I feel happy to have helped her. It’s a great feeling.”
You not only saved one life, Escobar, but you also saved future generations of these gentle creatures. Thank you!
