Blind Rescue Dog Jumps for Joy Upon Getting His Own Bed [Video]

  • Stevie may have lived all eight years of his life chained outside and without a bed.
  • After healing physically and emotionally with the care of his foster family, he was able to come out of his protective shell.
  • When he got his first soft dog bed, he couldn’t help but jump for joy!

Stevie was found chained up at a backyard in South Carolina along with another dog named Wonder. He was likely there for all eight years of his life, and he may have never had his own bed.

The Lancaster County SPCA took him in, and he was eventually transferred to New York’s Diamonds in the Ruff.

The rescue organization found that Stevie was dealing with numerous health issues. He was blind, had fleas, worms, and missed some fur. He also had an old corn cob stuck in his intestines, which had to be removed via surgery.

Living in a deplorable situation made it difficult for Stevie to adjust when it came to his foster family.

Stevie’s foster mom, Erin Boyd, shared that Stevie was able to sleep “most of the way” home, but would growl and bark every now and then.

“We knew he was just protecting himself,” she said. “When we got home, we brought the crate inside, and he would not come out. We were extra careful, knowing he could not see and us not knowing him yet.”

Stevie slowly healed physically and emotionally. His foster family soon realized that he was simply the sweetest, and they cherished witnessing all his firsts.

He most likely never slept on a soft dog bed before. So his foster family got him one — and his reaction was so precious!

Stevie loved the dog bed so much that he can’t help but do his happy jumping routine every time he chances upon one.

And his visible happiness is infectious!

Erin shared, “He jumps, will sometimes chew on a toy a little bit and then passes out.”

Stevie quickly learned how to navigate around his foster home, from getting up a few steps to jumping onto the bed.

Erin added that the sweet dog loves sleeping, going for walks, chewing on squeaky toys, and giving kisses.

Now that he has fully healed, Stevie is ready for adoption. He needs a local family — preferably with no other pets and is home a lot — who understands how special he is and can give him all the attention he missed out on.

“[Someone] that will just spend time snuggled up on the couch with him, take him on walks, let him soak up the sun, and give him lots of love,” Erin added.
