Hormel Foods Offer Children Of Their 16,000 Employees Free College Education

• Hormel Foods announced their plan to provide scholarships next year to the children of their employees.
• The program does not have any requirement for minimum GPA, or test scores, as long as they have graduated high school and passed the admission of the particular school of their choice.
• This is actually an expanded version of their previous Austin Assurance Scholarship a few years ago which was highly successful.

Starting next year, Hormel Foods will be providing free college tuition for two years to all of their American employees’ children!

The scholarship program was announced last week and does not require any minimum GPA, or test scores — with that, the company hopes many first-generation college students will avail of the program.

It’s called “Inspired Pathways” and is set to begin in next year’s fall season. The company’s spokesperson told GNN they have over 30 plant and office locations, and 16,000 employees whose dependent children are eligible to avail the program. They can enroll in any community college provided they have graduated high school and pass the requirements of the particular school of their choice. 

“When you think about how a college education can change lives and start a ripple effect that will be felt for generations, that’s the change-maker Hormel Foods wants to be,” says Hormel Foods president and CEO, Jim Snee.

“Our goal is that it costs us a lot; we want as many people to go as possible,” says the company’s executive vice president and CFO, Jim Sheehan.

Sheehan also stressed out their efforts in letting more of their people know about the program. They encourage all their supervisors to reach out to their workers and guide them with the process to apply.

This is not the first time that the Hormel Foundation offered the same program. A few years ago, they also had a program called Austin Assurance Scholarship in which students from Austin, Minnesota, attend Riverland Community College as scholars. 

This current program now is like a much expanded version of the previous one which was highly successful. David Kranz, Superintendent of Austin Public Schools said the company’s program helped many students go into college who might not have done so if not for the scholarship.

Also, they offer reimbursement of tuition fees for current employees who decide to go back to school while still working with Hormel Foods at the same time.
