  • Prior to his birth, Noah Wall was diagnosed with multiple illnesses, including a brain cyst, that were medically predicted to put him in a permanent vegetative state: deaf, blind, paralyzed.
  • But Noah beat the odds and has grown to be incredibly clever.
  • He can even tell the time, reads, does maths, loves science, and talk about the solar system!

Doctors thought that he wouldn’t survive with all the health diagnoses on him prior to his birth. In his mom Michelle Wall’s pregnancy tests, it was detected that Noah had spina bifida, a birth defect where the spine and spinal cord don’t form correctly. Further tests also revealed that he had a porencephalic cyst that was destroying his brain, and two genetic rare disorders — Edward’s syndrome and Patau’s syndrome — which have low odds of survival.

Noah’s condition led doctors to recommend for Michelle to terminate the pregnancy, foreseeing that the baby would be stillborn. They perceived survival is impossible. If ever he’d survive, the doctors predicted that it will be a passive existence: born deaf, blind and paralyzed from the waist down.

Michelle and her husband Rob, however, decided to keep the baby, praying for a miracle over his condition.

The couple’s faith moved mountains as soon as Noah was born. Like normal babies, he let out a loud cry, as if saying that he was born a conqueror.

His scan showed that two percent of Noah’s brain survived the cyst in his skull. He had to undergo surgery seven weeks after birth to close the opening in his spinal column and place a shunt in his head to drain fluid away.

“It’s a very emotive subject,” Rob told Good Morning Britain. “Some people say you can’t grow a brain, some say his brain was there, all squashed up, so when he’s had his shunt fitted, it’s gone back to where it should be — but if his brain was so squashed up, he should have been so severely mentally disabled.”

Noah has continued to defy the odds and showed unexpected developments. He is impressively smart and physically active. He can even “tell the time, he reads, he does maths, he loves science. He can talk about the solar system. He has incredible dreams and even more incredible knowledge!”

The little boy from Cumbria, England recently turned nine. His current state almost leaves no traces of how challenging his life as a baby was, who had gone through 11 surgeries.

“It’s astonishing to me how smart he is. Every single day he does something that impresses me. He’s even started using aftershave in preparation for puberty,” Michelle said. “I’m so extremely proud of him. He’s my son. His goal in life is to run, it’s what he wants to do. I will help him all I can and always be there for him.”

Thank you for showing us that a life full of hope is the life to be, Noah.
