Meet Bonnie the Brave. Because of an unfortunate accident when she was just a puppy, she’s now missing her nose and part of her tail and front paw.

Bonnie and her siblings were just puppies when they were seen with their mother in a factory in Romania. A worker shared their pictures online in the hopes of getting them adopted. Sadly, Bonnie was hit by a coal train days later and suffered severe injuries. She was only found days later.

When she was brought to the vet, she was already missing most of her snout, tail, and leg. She was so weak that most of the other dogs bullied her. Bonnie’s rescuers were advised to euthanize her, but they believed that someone out there will still have love for her. So they brought her to Beacon Animal Rescue, where Rebecca helped find her a home in the U.K.

When Bonnie’s pictures were shared on the rescue’s website, it reached a kind soul named Kate.

Kate thought of fostering Bonnie at first. But when she realized that nobody else might want her because of her appearance and potential medical expenses, she decided to adopt her.

First, they tried to get Bonnie a prosthetic paw, but it didn’t fit and caused her pain, so they decided to have the rest of her limb amputated. Bonnie could also get corrective surgery to repair her nose, but her new family didn’t want to put her through more pain. It wasn’t medically necessary, after all.

Bonnie can move around, function normally, and is not in any pain, so her family embraced her just the way she is.

Sadly, there were people who couldn’t appreciate her.

Many couldn’t help but stare, and others even said hurtful things like “Get that thing away from me,” or “your dog is ugly.” Some even tried to kick the poor pup! Kate said that many people asked condescendingly how Bonnie could even smell.

Thankfully, there is still good in the world amid all the bad. When Bonnie’s story was shared online, they received many gifts and heartwarming messages of support from across the globe. A lot of people wanted to know more about her, and some would even take selfies with her!
