A veterinary has captured a moment that left the staff in complete shock. The video has since gone viral on TikTok, racking up 1.6 million views! It shows a veterinarian chatting with the owners of a German shepherd that had just had his neck cone removed. But then, the dog voluntarily places his head back in it.

The vet, who works at Dove Creek Animal Hospital in New York, bursts into laughter as she can’t believe her eyes. Elizabethan collars, also known as “cones of shame,” are usually despised by animals who try their best to get them off.

The voiceover in the clip stated: “This may be the first time that this has ever happened in the history of dogs.”

The dog appeared to look “proud” of himself and jumped up to the vet for further approval. The video has amassed over 179,000 likes, and according to the comments, this isn’t the only dog who doesn’t mind the cone.

One user said: “It’s a German shepherd thing. Mine did the same. After she healed from her surgery, we found that she put it on herself when it was time for bed.” Another called it: “The cone of PRIDE.”

Dr. Anna Foreman, a veterinarian based in the U.K. Foreman, who works for Everypaw Pet Insurance, told Newsweek: “Some animals hate wearing buster collars, some don’t mind them at all. I haven’t met a dog who would choose to wear one rather than not—the dog in the video looks like he accidentally put his cone back on when sniffing through the middle of it, or has been trained to accept the collar and is expecting a reward, than choosing to wear it!”

The reason why the dog in the viral video had to wear a cone is unknown. They are often required after surgery to stop an animal from licking or chewing at a new scar, wound, or dressing.
