Hilarious Video: Labrador Mistakes Reflection for Intruder
Quick Smiles:
- Teddy, a Labrador Retriever, is captured on video growling at his own reflection, thinking it’s another dog.
- Teddy’s owner, Jennifer Hart, shares the hilarious moment on TikTok, garnering over 133,000 views and 19,800 likes.
- Despite their intelligence, dogs like Teddy have yet to understand how mirrors work, as per the American Kennel Club.
Meet Teddy, a Labrador Retriever with a knack for keeping an eye out for intruders, even if the intruder happens to be his own reflection.
In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, Teddy can be seen lying at the end of a bed, a blanket draped over him, growling at his mirror image.
His owner, Jennifer Hart, a police officer from Hertfordshire, U.K., shared the video on her TikTok account (@jen.and.teddy).
“He has seen his reflection before and does usually growl at himself, I think to be protective of me more than anything,” said Hart.
In the video, Hart tries to calm Teddy down, saying, “Ted, it’s you.”
Despite her reassurances, Teddy continues to growl, his eyes fixed on the mirror.
“Teddy, it’s just you,” she repeats, but Teddy’s growls only intensify.

Many people think it’s normal for a dog’s breath to smell bad.
But this is simply not true.
“Stinky” dog breath is actually a sign of a potentially devastating health issue.
(Which can result in thousands of dollars in veterinary bills and intense procedures.)
So if your dog’s breath smells even remotely unclean right now, it’s imperative you watch this video and learn what to do.
Eventually, Teddy jumps off the bed to investigate further, prompting Hart to burst into laughter.
Hart describes Teddy as a friendly and affectionate dog who loves attention and cuddles.
“He’s just happy as long as he’s around people,” she said.
The video, humorously captioned “I never claimed he was clever,” has received 19,800 likes and numerous comments, many from other dog owners sharing similar experiences.
Despite dogs being known for their intelligence, understanding how mirrors work remains a challenge for them. The American Kennel Club (AKC) notes that only a few animal species have passed the mirror test, including great apes, dolphins, elephants, and magpies, but dogs are not on this list.

Let’s face it…
Sometimes dogs can be downright smelly.
It can be hard to ignore the odor — no matter how cute and cuddly they are.
So what if I told you there was an easy, 2-minute method that could help diminish these odors for good?
Dog parents who’ve tried this technique say their dogs’ odors not only improved…
Their pups also experienced calmer, happier moods.
This technique is so powerful, it can even help your dog let go of weird canine habits, like grass-eating and paw-licking.
You can learn all about it in this special video report here
The AKC suggests that dogs’ confusion upon encountering a mirror might be due to initial fear or curiosity rather than self-recognition. This is despite their demonstrated proficiency in other cognitive and social abilities.
