  • Cheeky the senior dog has a laid-back attitude that makes her mom’s foster kittens feel safe around her.
  • One day, a stray cat started hanging around their porch.
  • After an initial unfortunate run-in, the two slowly became friends who loved snuggling with each other!

Meet Cheeky, a 14-year-old pup with a sweet and laid-back personality. It might be this attitude that makes her beloved by the foster kittens that her mom, Liz Heck, brings home.

There was one cat, however, who proved to be a feisty one.

Six months ago, Liz noticed that a stray cat had been visiting their front porch for the free food that she leaves out.

This stray cat grew bolder as time went by, to the point that she decided to check out the rest of the property.

Liz shared, “She climbed over the fence into our backyard. My wife went to let Cheeky outside, not knowing the cat was there, and the cat got scared and scratched Cheeky on the nose.”

It was an uneventful first meeting. But Liz and her wife knew that the cat was looking for a safe place to stay, so they decided to ease her in.

They slowly introduced Cheeky and let her know that she won’t get hurt by the dog.

When the cat understood that she was safe, she decided to stay around the property for several days.

One day, Liz was pleasantly surprised to see that Cheeky and the cat, now named Sushi, are getting along well!

Cheeky has worked her magic once again and won over the feisty stray cat!

Liz spotted the two new friends snuggling comfortably in the sun.

Liz shared, “[Sushi] loves hanging out with Cheeky when she comes outside. So now we put cat food on the back porch for her and put a heating pad in a box on the back porch, where she sleeps at night.”

Since Cheeky is too big for the heating pad, she simply goes outside when it’s sunny.

Sushi “loves to rub up on her and let Cheeky clean her head,” Liz shared.

Liz noticed that Sushi is already ear-tipped and spayed, but she still plans on getting her flea prevention and vaccines once she gets more comfortable around humans.

Sushi is still a very independent cat, but she has warmed up the idea of coming inside at night. She clearly appreciates having someone to snuggle up to for warmth.

Cheeky has scored a new feline friend!
