Quick Smiles:

  • A Queens family, who had lost their playful pitbull, Mocha, five months ago, found her at a pet adoption event in Manhattan’s Union Square Park where they had gone to look for a new dog.
  • Mocha, renamed Sandy by the shelter, had been found tied to a post near the ASPCA, showcasing a loving, family-oriented temperament, and had become a staff and volunteer favorite at the Animal Cares Center.
  • After identifying and proving that the dog was indeed Mocha, the family was able to bring her home, looking forward to a summer of spoiling their beloved pet with her favorite raw meat treats, while pondering over the strange circumstances of her disappearance.

Call it a happy coincidence or a stroke of serendipity, but a family from Queens experienced a real-life heartwarmer that could make any Hallmark movie plot seem lackluster.

Five months after their playful pitbull, Mocha, went mysteriously missing, they found her at a pet adoption event where they had gone to find a new dog to fill the void.

The heartbroken family, who prefer to remain anonymous, had never given up hope of Mocha’s return.

They decided to visit “Paws in the Park,” a pet adoption event in Manhattan’s Union Square Park, hoping to welcome a new furry friend into their lives.

Little did they know that fate had arranged a grand reunion.

The husband and father recounted the surreal moment, “Just as we walked in, there she was. We had gone there not expecting to find Mocha, but she was right there.”

The end of their quest was marked by a flurry of joyous tears, heartfelt hugs, and the ceaseless wagging of a familiar tail.

Mocha, renamed Sandy by the shelter, had been found tied to a post near the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and had been brought to the Animal Cares Center by the NYPD.

Staff and volunteers at the center quickly warmed up to her loving, family-oriented demeanor.

“Sandy quickly became a staff and volunteer favorite,” said Jay Damashek, an Animal Cares Center volunteer.

Meanwhile, the Queens family was still mourning the loss of their Mocha, who had mysteriously disappeared after being left with a dog sitter during a family vacation.

The owner and his wife, parents to three young children, had experienced a heartbreaking ordeal following Mocha’s disappearance.

Their children, especially, kept inquiring about when they would get Mocha back.

Their belief in a happy ending was about to pay off.

“My wife says ‘Hey, that looks like Mocha.,’” the owner recalls.

“I called her name out and she started jumping, perked her ears up to her name and that was it. That was the end of it. She answered to her name.”

Mocha was finally home, back with her rightful owners who had to show pictures and sign a release to get her back.

Her owner said, “She’s overprotective, loves swimming and adores the water.”

After the distressing ordeal, Mocha looked leaner, but her spirits remained unbroken, much to the family’s relief.

As they look forward to a summer of spoiling Mocha with her favorite raw meat treats, the Queens family can’t help but ponder over the strange circumstances of her disappearance.

But one thing’s for sure – their story is a testament to the unwavering bond between humans and their furry companions, and a reminder that sometimes, life does throw you a bone when you least expect it.
