Quick Smiles:

  • A mom and her two little ones were saved by a group of quick-thinking high school students in Utah.
  • These heroes-in-training lifted a car off the trapped family in just three minutes!
  • The mom, an employee of the school, and her kids are all doing well after the incident.

Imagine this: you’re in a high school parking lot in Utah, and suddenly, a mother and her two children are pinned under a car. But fear not! A swarm of high school students spring into action, ready to save the day.

The head honcho of the private school, Chris Crowder, couldn’t help but gush about the swift and determined response of the students. They swooped in like superheroes, lifting the car to free the trapped family.

This all went down on a chilly day in early December. The mom and her tiny tots, aged 2 and 3, were making their way across the Layton Christian Academy parking lot. But a driver, partially blinded by the low winter sun, didn’t see them and accidentally ran them over.

Crowder, the CEO of the Academy, described the car as small with very little ground clearance. “I ran back in the building to grab as many students as possible,” he shared with Good Morning America. “The car was just on top of them and squishing them.”

But wait, there’s more! An active-duty military airman was also on the scene. With Crowder rallying the students and the airman’s help, they managed to free the family in about three minutes.

“Three minutes doesn’t sound like a long time, but certainly in a critical incident like that, when stress is high, that seems like a really long time,” said Lt. Travis Lyman of the Layton Police Department. He added that the whole Department was beaming with pride for the students’ speedy response.

The mom who works at the school, was whisked away to the hospital for surgery for non-life-threatening injuries. Her kids, on the other hand, got away with just minor scrapes and bruises.

So, let’s give a big virtual high-five to these responsible teens for their quick actions and heroism!
