It has been a devastating year for Jill. Her brother succumbed to brain cancer and her cat, Ashton, was diagnosed with a fatal disease.

Ashton caught a viral disease caused by a strain of the feline coronavirus, feline infectious peritonitis.

While the rare disease is usually fatal, a lifesaving medical treatment has been developed recently. It’s not FDA-approved yet, but it has already saved many cats’ lives.

Jill was ecstatic when she found out about the treatment, but she realized that she could not afford the cost. Still, she would not give up, so she asked the Reddit community for help.

“How can I save him?” she asked desperately. “He was recently diagnosed with F.I.P. and I can’t afford the life-saving treatment he needs. I am desperate. He is my world.”

Jill also showed proof of Ashton’s diagnosis and vet bill.

Fortunately, her post reached many kind hearts and fellow cat lovers. Many of them offered whatever they can. One Reddit user, scholarlyfox, spoke privately with Jill and suggested starting a GoFundMe.

Jill wrote on the fundraising page, “I am desperate to save my best friend. He is my emotional support animal and my everything.”

She set a $8,000 goal and hoped that they would reach it, given the number of people who said they would donate. The goal was quickly surpassed in just four hours — and they reached a total of $9,116 from 191 donations!

Jill updated the Reddit community that they reached their goal and thanked everyone.

“It’s a long road but because of you all I have hope and I am so eternally grateful to everyone. To everyone who has helped, sent tips, believed in me and been supportive, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart,” Jill wrote.

“This is the best community around, I love and appreciate you all. Thank you so much,” she continued.

It’s truly amazing how much a community can deliver when asked for help!
