Cute Baby Owl Fell From Nest Into College Office

  • Thunderstorms can bring wild animals into unexpected places just like a baby owl that ended up in an office.
  • They fed it and kept it warm but returned it to its nest and mom at the end of the day.
  • Two years later, it might be the same owl that made a surprise visit to a lecture hall where his rescuer had a class.

During a heavy thunderstorm, a baby owl fell from his nest. Maryam Khalil’s colleague scooped him up and brought him indoors into their office at Forman Christian College.  So, when Khalil walked into their office, the enchanting baby bird greeted her.

In her morning and evening walks on the campus, Kahlil has seen many birds but has never been near one of the owls.

And there it was, a yellow-eyed owl with a downy coat of ray and brown feathers near her cubicle. Kahlil said, “One of my colleagues had him in his hand. It was the most adorable thing we’ve ever witnessed in an office environment.”

The little bird was wrapped in soft cloth as the air conditioner was at its maximum.

Everyone in the office was excited with the baby owl’s presence and they got preoccupied with him.  Work was forgotten.  But through all the buzz, he remained calm.

Khalil said, “I put him in a box in my lap when he started looking around with his captivating eyes. He slept for a while, and we fed him during the day.”

They all knew that he needed to be returned to his mom.  And so, when the day ended, they looked for the owl’s nest and reunited him with his family.

Nothing was heard or seen of the owl after that.  But one night, two years after, an adult owl made a surprise appearance in Kahlil’s class in a lecture hall. She thought that there was really something familiar about the owl.

Kahlil said, “This wasn’t a baby owl, but he looked charming while winking at us.”

In Kahlil’s mind, could it be the little baby owl that they helped a couple of years ago?  Whether it was him or not, she wishes that wherever the owl may be, it is living its best life.
