Dog as heavy as a baby elephant reaches target weight after a year

  • Trojan the dog weighed 223 pounds — which is about the same weight as a baby elephant — when he was rescued.
  • After a year of slowly losing weight, he finally reached a healthier weight of 132 pounds.
  • Now that he’s much healthier and happier, he can’t wait to find his forever home.

Trojan the dog was so overweight when he arrived at the RSPCA — he weighed 223 pounds, which is about as heavy as a baby elephant!

He was so heavy that he found it difficult to do a lot of things.

So his rescuers made sure to help him lose the excess weight “slowly and safely” through “a very special diet and an exercise regime.”

After a year, he finally got to a healthier weight of 132 pounds!

Kennel supervisor Nicola Anthony said, “He’s now almost half of his original weight. Thankfully, he hasn’t lost his big character!”

Now at a healthy weight, Trojan is so much happier! And he can’t wait to find his forever home.

He may be 10 years old already, but he still acts like a puppy most times since he loves exploring everything.

Nicola said that Trojan’s age doesn’t hinder him at all.

“He is still strong and likes to go for short walks, plod around the garden and have a good sniff,” she shared.

“He gets on really well with other dogs but doesn’t like being jumped all over, so he’s best around calm, respectful doggy friends,” she advised potential adopters. “We think he’d be best as the only dog in his new home so he can have all of the attention and affection, and he really deserves it!”

Nicola added that Trojan only needs a few checkups for his arthritis and thyroid problems. But aside from that, a lot of belly rubs and attention are enough — and definitely well-deserved!

After coming a long way and achieving his target weight, Trojan still has his best life ahead of him! He only needs a family now to share it all with.
