Marriage proposals are not just about two people deciding to take their relationship to the next level. They are also about embracing each other’s lives, merging families, and of course, including the four-legged family members.

One such proposal took an unexpected turn when a man decided to pop the question to his girlfriend in a San Diego park, only to have her goldendoodle steal the spotlight. 

The dog, noticing something inside a tennis ball, almost spoiled the surprise. Luckily, the man managed to retrieve the ball before the dog could ruin the moment.

Then, as he got down on one knee, the dog, misunderstanding the situation, assumed the proposal was for her. She positioned herself between the man and his girlfriend, wearing an unmistakable grin.

In the dog’s perspective, the moment she had “waited her whole life for” had finally arrived. She refused to move, prematurely accepting the proposal meant for her human.

Behind her, the actual recipient of the proposal stood in shock. The dog’s owner eventually managed to move her pet aside to accept the proposal herself.

Despite the mix-up, the dog didn’t seem to mind not being the man’s intended. After all, she was still part of the family. As the owner revealed in the video’s caption, the dog quickly got over her disappointment when she discovered the treats the man had been hiding. She happily munched on them as her newly engaged parents embraced.
